The keynote speaker at the Johannesburg AGM will be Professor Bhekisipho Twala, who will speak on “Big data analytics: Does quality really matter?”
Today’s academics and professionals are inundated with data, motivating new ways of thinking about how data is produced, organized, and analysed.
This has provided an impetus for institutions and organizations to adopt and perfect data analytic functions (e.g. data science, predictive analytics, smart cities, internet of things, and big data) in order to enhance big data analytics processes and, ultimately, performance.
However, management decisions informed by the use of these data analytic methods are only as good as the data on which they are based.
In this talk, Twala introduces the data quality problem in the context of innovative IT capability that can improve business performance. In addition to advocating for the importance of addressing data quality in artificial intelligence research and practice, he also highlights interdisciplinary research topics based on big data analytics.
