A private eco tour with the Technical Manager of Hotel Verde, the only hotel in the world to have achieved a Platinum LEED certification from the United States Green Building Council, for their design and construction, as well as their operations and maintenance.
In June 2015, they were awarded the highest accolade of a six star rating from the Green Building Council of South Africa for the Green Star SA Existing Buildings tool.
The hotel has a carbon-neutral footprint, achieved through energy efficiency (inter alia photo-voltaic panels, wind turbines, regenerative drive elevators, energy-generating gym equipment, ground source heat pumps); water efficiency (grey water recycling, rainwater collection, drip irrigation, low flow tap and shower fittings, etc – saves, on average 6000 litres daily); and a zero waste to landfill policy.
We’ll enjoy an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the hotel’s multiple award-winning structure and innovative design offering, as well as their day-to-day ‘green’ operations.
See: https://www.hotelverde.com/static/hotel-facts for some fascinating insights into the hotel’s carbon-neutral approach.
