Winelands: Virtual speaker evening - Professor Albert Grundlingh

Beyond the headlines: what goes into the making of charisma?

Frederik van Zyl Slabbert (1940-2010), an academic turned politician, brought unusual intellectual rigour to Parliament – Professor Albert Grundlingh will provide sharp insights into the thinking and motivation of this most unlikely politician who, even today, remains something of an enigma.

Albert Grundlingh was appointed at the University of South Africa in the History Department in 1973 and obtained his MA and D Litt et Phil degrees at the same university. He headed the department in 1998, and in 2001 he moved to Stellenbosch University as Chairperson the History Department, serving in that capacity till 2015. He retired in 2018, and is currently an emeritus professor at Stellenbosch University and a research associate at the University of the Free State.
A distinguished historiographer, he has published widely in the field of war and society, sport and society, historiography, and aspects of South African history.

The meeting will be held via an interactive Zoom webinar, and all members of Mensa South Africa are welcome to participate.
