Critical Theory
‘Critical Theory’ is defined as ‘a philosophical approach to culture that considers the social, historical and ideological forces and structures which produce and constrain it’. It has become a powerful intellectual force in academia, the news and entertainment media, and in politics.
Our guest speaker on Thursday 19 July, Nicolai Haussamer, will look at the origins of Critical Theory, as well as its current and future societal impact.
Nicolai is an Actuarial Science graduate who attended Somerset College and attained ten distinctions in his final year. He completed his Masters in Mathematical Finance during early 2018, with a research focus on the application of machine learning to financial model calibration.
His experience includes collaborative research focused on using economic data to construct early warning indicators of financial crises, in the context of long-term asset management.
He is the co-founder of a financial technology start-up, and his current work focuses on blockchain technology and digital asset security.
