Founded by Cape brandy pioneer Jan Van Ryn in 1845, the Van Ryn’s Distillery in Stellenbosch earned its first international award for exceptional quality as far back as 1884, and has since established a reputation for producing some of the world’s best brandies.
Join us at the distillery on Saturday 22 June at 13h00 for a guided tour which will take us on a journey through time as we witness the ancient art of cooperage (barrel-making) and see the time-honoured process of brandy distillation in action.
This will be followed by a brandy and chocolate tasting, offering a choice of either three hand-made Belgian chocolates or three truffles, paired with three of Van Ryn’s premier potstill brandies. These comprise the 12-year-old Distiller’s Reserve, the 15-year-old Fine Cask Reserve, and Van Ryn’s 20-year-old Collector’s Reserve.
Mensa Winelands is subsidising the cost of the excursion for their members, who pay R50pp. Guests are welcome and pay R115pp.
Numbers are limited; early reservation is recommended and pre-payment is required.
